The service life of industrial water purification equipment and the replacement cycle of consumables

How long is the service life of large-scale industrial water purification equipment? How often does the filter element need to be replaced? The overall service life of large-scale industrial water purification equipment and filter replacement cycle needs to be combined with the life of the core components and routine maintenance of comprehensive judgment, as follows:

First, the overall service life of the equipment

industrial water purification equipment is usually designed for a long life in 5-10 years, but the actual life depends on the following factors:

Maintenance: Regular replacement of filter cartridges, reverse osmosis membranes and other consumables, as well as cleaning the system piping, can significantly extend the life of the equipment.

Water conditions: When the water source is heavily polluted or hardness is high, the load of the equipment increases, which may shorten the service life.

Operation intensity: continuous high load operation of the equipment wear and tear faster, need to strengthen the maintenance.

Technology update: equipment aging may be obsolete due to outdated technology, rather than completely damaged

Core components life

Reverse osmosis membrane (RO membrane): conventional service life of 1-2 years, excellent water quality conditions and maintenance in place can be up to 3-5 years
Ultrafiltration membrane: the average replacement cycle of 2-3 years.

Ion exchange resin: generally 2-3 years to be replaced.

Softening resin cartridge: replacement cycle of 1-2 years.

The overall life of the system

In the case of standardized operation and regular maintenance, the life of the main structure of the equipment (excluding consumables) can be up to 5-10 years, but need to be adjusted according to the specific process configuration and operating load.

Second, the cartridge replacement cycle

(a) Pre-treatment system cartridge

Filter is the core consumables of the equipment, the replacement cycle of different cartridges varies greatly, according to the type and quality of water comprehensive judgment:

(a) Pre-treatment cartridge PP cotton cartridge: filtration of large particles of impurities, the replacement cycle is generally 3-6 months (when the water quality is poor, shortened to 1-3 months).

Quartz sand cartridge: remove suspended solids and rust, life 1-2 years (shortened to 8-24 months when water quality is poor).

Activated carbon cartridge: adsorption of residual chlorine, organic matter, replacement cycle of 6-18 months (after the activated carbon recommended 6 months). Ultra-filtration membrane: removing microorganisms and macromolecular impurities, life expectancy of 2-3 years (shortened to 12-24 months when water quality is poor)

(ii) Core treatment system

Reverse osmosis membrane: 1-3 years 14, high water hardness or water yield > 15μs/cm need to be advanced.

Ultra-purification column: 18-24 months or 1.0 tons of water production after replacement.

(iii) Other auxiliary systems

Softening resin: 1-2 years 5, high hardness areas need to be replaced annually.

Water storage tank: clean and disinfect every 3-6 months.

III. Influencing factors

Equipment tips: modern equipment is usually equipped with intelligent reminder function, prompting the replacement time.

Differential pressure changes: a significant increase in the pressure difference between the inlet and outlet water needs to be replaced immediately.

Water conditions: raw water impurities (such as high hardness, high residual chlorine) will shorten the life of the cartridge 20% -50%13

Intensity of use: high load operation needs to shorten the replacement cycle, continuous high load operation of the equipment needs to advance 20%-30% replacement cycle.

Maintenance level: regular chemical cleaning can extend RO membrane life by more than 30%.

Fourth, maintenance recommendations

Regular testing: monitor the TDS value, residual chlorine, hardness and other indicators, timely adjustment of the maintenance program.

Select high-quality consumables: poor quality cartridges may reduce filtration efficiency and damage equipment.

Record the replacement time: establish a maintenance account to avoid missing key consumables replacement.

Monitoring indicators: Check the cartridge when the conductivity is >15μs/cm or when the water production drops by 15%.

Replacement strategy: It is recommended to replace the cartridge early when it reaches 80% of its theoretical life.

System Maintenance: Chemical cleaning of the reverse osmosis membrane every 3-6 months and annual testing of the resin exchange capacity.

Summarize.

Industrial water purification equipment can last for more than 10 years, but regular maintenance and cartridge replacement is required to guarantee operational efficiency. Filter cartridge replacement cycle from 1 month to 5 years, the specific need to combine the water quality, equipment parameters and manufacturer's recommendations for comprehensive judgment. If you find abnormal water quality or a drop in water production, you should immediately check and replace the cartridge. For more details, please refer to the relevant manufacturer's guidelines or professional maintenance manuals.

(Note: The above data is synthesized from different equipment models and water quality conditions, the actual operation should be combined with specific equipment manuals and water quality test reports.)
