The core component of the water purifier is the filter element, which is equivalent to the heart of the human body and plays a vital role in the operation of the water purifier.
However, the filter element is not permanently used and is affected by external factors such as poor water quality and high frequency of use. Impact, the service life will be greatly shortened, so how to make the water purifier filter element more durable?

In recent years, water purifiers have become popular in thousands of households and have become a must-have household appliance for many families! Because more and more consumers are concerned about their health and drinking water safety, and water purifiers can effectively help us purify water quality, filter out harmful substances in tap water, and protect our daily drinking water safety issues.
However, after long-term operation, water purifiers also need regular maintenance and care. In order to drink safe and healthy water, the water purifier filter needs to be cleaned and replaced regularly to better protect the drinking water health of you and your family! How to judge the life of the water purifier filter? How to maintain the water purifier? Today, Susan will share with you the knowledge related to the maintenance rules and replacement cycle of the water purifier filter.

Part 1 Pay attention to daily flushing and cleaning of the filter element

At present, the water purifiers on the market have been upgraded, and most of them have automatic flushing functions.
Usually, regular manufacturers will give a reference replacement time for the filter element of the water purifier they produce.
For example, PP cotton filter elements generally need to be replaced every 3 months, while activated carbon filter elements only need to be replaced every 6 months; RO membranes generally have a service life of about 12 months, and ultrafiltration membranes generally have a service life of 24-36 months.

However, due to the relatively large differences in water quality in different regions of my country, this reference value is an estimate of the service life of the filter element based on the average condition of urban tap water quality. Some manufacturers will also make judgments based on the actual water output of the water purifier, but this method also needs to refer to the test results of the filter element in the urban tap water environment. Of course, these theories cannot truly represent the service life of the water purifier filter element in real life. The actual replacement cycle of the filter element is also closely related to maintenance.

In addition to the reference service life set by the manufacturer, how long the water purifier filter element can be used still depends on the daily maintenance of the family. Pay attention to the following points:

First, the filter element inside the water purifier must be rinsed before the first use to wash away the protective liquid in the filter element. The specific operation is as follows: open the tap water inlet ball valve, tap, purification tap, and then frequently open and close the tap (such as closing for 3 seconds, flushing for 8 seconds) to form a pulse impact, which lasts for 15 minutes until the water comes out clear and foam-free.

Second, cleaning. At present, there are three different types of water purification products on the market: water purifiers, pure water machines, and water softeners. They are composed of filter elements of different materials. After a certain period of use, the products will produce impurities accumulation and filter element blockage.

1. When the water output is less than half of the original, it means that the filter element of the water purifier has been blocked seriously, and you can apply for cleaning to the after-sales service center of the purchased product.

2. Cleaning can be done by forward flushing or backwashing. In daily use, the process of taking water from the tap is to flush the filter element. It is recommended to open the tap after taking purified water to flush; if the water output is still small after forward flushing, consider backwashing the water purifier. Now brand water purifiers generally have backwashing buttons to remove blockages in the filter element.

After the equipment produces water for a period of time, the filter element will be automatically flushed. Give the filter element a "bath" to make the filter element play the maximum effect! However, after the water is cut off, the sewage treatment must be carried out before using the water purifier! Because after a long period of water outage, a large amount of sediment, rust and other substances will be deposited in the water pipes. When using the water purifier at this time, the sediment in the water pipes will directly enter the machine, causing the filter element to be blocked, no water or odor in the water, affecting the normal use of the water purifier.

Part 2 Install a pre-water purifier

The pre-water purifier can be said to be the "guardian" of water-related home appliances!
If the water quality in the user's area is not very good, you can install a pre-water purifier (also called a pre-scale inhibitor) in front of the water purifier to pre-treat the water quality.

Through the pre-water purifier, the water quality is filtered for a primary process to remove large particles such as sand and rust in the water, so that the filtering task of the filter element in the water purifier can be reduced. If the filtering task of the water purifier is light, the service life of the water purifier filter element will naturally be appropriately extended.

Part 3 Stay away from heat sources and avoid direct sunlight

Just like antifreeze in winter, water purifiers also need to pay attention to sun protection in summer. Direct sunlight may affect the life of water purifier accessories. Long-term high temperature baking will affect the life of plastic accessories and even cause green algae to grow inside the filter element. Therefore, no matter what kind of water purifier, it should be installed in a cool place indoors as much as possible to avoid heat sources; if it must be installed outdoors, it should be covered with tents or sun-proof fabrics.

Part 4 Water and electricity should be cut off when not in use for a long time

As summer vacation is about to begin, many friends may go out for a long time. It is necessary to remind everyone that before going out, do not forget to cut off the water and electricity to the water purifier at home, so as to reduce the damage to the water purifier caused by the sudden change of water flow or water pressure in the water pipe. If the above situation really happens, and no one is at home at this time, the consequences can be imagined. Therefore, if you are not at home for a long time or do not use the water purifier, you must remember to cut off the water and power supply to the water purifier in time. This can not only better protect the water purifier and make it work more stably, but also effectively avoid the loss of your own property.

Part 5 Expired filter cartridges must be replaced in time

How to judge whether the filter element of the water purifier needs to be replaced?

1. The water output is significantly reduced
When the water output of the water purifier is greatly reduced, much smaller than the original water flow, and cannot be restored after flushing, and cannot meet your water needs, then the filter element needs to be replaced.

2. The taste is worse
When the taste of the water output of the water purifier drops to close to tap water, that is, the chlorine taste of tap water cannot be removed, it means that the activated carbon filter element of the water purifier has been adsorbed saturated and the activated carbon has failed. At this time, the filter element of the water purifier should be replaced.

3. The service life is too long
Generally, the filter element is replaced according to the reference service life when it leaves the factory. Of course, if it is used less during this period or the tap water quality of the community is high, the replacement time can be appropriately extended. For smart water purifiers, there will be corresponding warning lights to remind.
Once the filter element of the water purifier is used, the ability of the filter element to treat pollutants begins to decline until the ability to treat pollutants disappears. Therefore, what we need to do is to pay attention to the service life of the filter element of the water purifier and replace the filter element in time.

If the filter element is not replaced for a long time, it is possible to cause "secondary pollution" to the filtered water, posing a great hidden danger to the family's water safety. Therefore, we must be diligent in maintaining the water purifier and replace the filter element in time during daily use.
Be sure to replace the filter cartridge in time to maximize the water purification effect.
The life of the filter cartridge will be affected by the local water quality and usage, so you can make adjustments according to your own situation, but now many water purifiers have smart cartridge replacement reminder functions, such as the Wotai IoT smart series water purifier, which can directly display the filter cartridge life and real-time water quality so that users can replace the filter cartridge in time.

Water filtered from water purifiers on the market is generally categorized into two types, purified water and pure water. Among them, pure water refers to H2O without impurities. Tap water is filtered through RO (reverse osmosis) membranes, which can remove heavy metals, organics, scale, bacteria, viruses and other harmful substances, filter out minerals, and turn into pure water. Pure water contains almost no other substances and can be drunk straight.
